Life is full of choices and one of the decisions that many of my friends and I have made is to wear luxury timepieces.
Granted, some people will never understand why we choose to spend thousands of dollars on a wristwatch when there are options from any department store for only $19.99 and ultimately, whenever someone asks “What time is it?” we will still most likely pull out our phone to check the time.
So, I decided to ask a few of my friends the simple question:
“Why do you choose to collect luxury timepieces?”

My first experience with a real timepiece is when my grandfather let me try on his Rolex Day-Date when I was 10 or 11 and immediately felt something special.
For years I wore “fashion” watches until I could afford a Rolex of my own, a Rolex Explorer. I remember the experience and the pride of ownership. It’s tough to explain, but I know my fellow watch collectors can relate with – It’s an experience, a feeling, and not “logic”, like seeing a piece of art that strikes you deep.
I wear luxury timepieces because it connects me to the past experience, with my grandfather, and future experiences with fellow members of the watch enthusiast club.

Wearing a luxury timepiece elevates you as a man. It embodies everything you would look for – craftsmanship, value, recognition, and knowing that it will last decades is a bonus.

For me, wearing a high-end wristwatch give you that “first impression” advantage.
A mentor once told me when you show up with nice timepiece or a nice car it will automatically open doors for you that will never be available for you otherwise. Of course as I learn more about luxury timepieces, I also start to appreciate them more-and-more to a point where I am almost addicted now.

There have been countless time that, because of the watch that I happened to be wearing, I have gotten into conversations with people, or gotten access to certain “circles”, that have afforded me unique opportunities. The other reason is basically I appreciate the art and craftsmanship that goes into the making of luxury watches.
